(EAST BOSTON- August 18) The East Boston Athletic Board along with
the Paris Street Gym is having a busy summer hosting many events
such as the last week's Home Run Derby at Noyes Park and a Saturday
night basketball event at the Orient Heights Recreation center.
On August 22, the board is hosting a Whiffle Ball tourney at the
Orient Heights Beach at 12 Noon.
The East Boston Athletic Board has been involved in the community
since 1949 and is the oldest sporting award event and community
events in Boston. The Boston Foundation has enabled the East Boston
Athletic board to host these events under the Safe Streets to keep
the kids involved and out of trouble during the summer.
Last weekend, the board sponsored the Roller Hockey Tourney down at
Jeffries Point and will be hosting a very big Girls softball tourney
in September.
Next year they will be hosting many more events in East Boston
thanks to the Boston Foundation and Vice President Robert Lewis who
is a native of East Boston and graduate of East Boston High School.
The Athletic board will be hosting a Day at the Races next month.
Mr. James Caruso can be credited with getting the Grants for these
programs. Jimmy has went above and beyond in getting the Athletic
Board back into the community were they belong.
The Baseball Home run derby was a huge success along with all the
other events.
