Autumn Paddle at Belle
Isle Reservation
Join Boston Natural Areas Network and the Department of Conservation
& Recreation on a free river paddle
BOSTON, MA, September 24, 2008 – Now that autumn is officially here,
it’s time to consider unique outdoor excursions that take advantage
of beautiful natural resources. On Sunday, September 28th, for
example, enjoy a brisk canoe tour of Belle Isle inlet along the East
Boston Greenway in search of fall migratory birds.
Hosted by Boston Natural Areas Network and the Department of
Conservation & Recreation, this canoe trip is free, but reservations
are required by calling DCR at 617-727-1199, ext. 212. Participants
must be at least 12 years old; canoes will be provided. Participants
should meet at Belle Isle Marsh Reservation off Bennington Street in
East Boston at 10:00 a.m. and expect to be on the water for about
two hours.
Belle Isle Marsh Reservation is one of Boston's most beautiful salt
marshes. Its protected waters are nurseries to fish and shellfish
and are critical habitat to many salt marsh plants and wildlife rare
to the metropolitan area. Paddlers will enjoy fresh salt marsh
breezes while exploring and learning about this natural resource.
Boston Natural Areas Network is a non-profit organization dedicated
to bringing together local residents, partner organizations, public
officials and foundations to preserve, expand, and enhance urban
open space, including community gardens, greenways, and urban wilds.
