Chamber to Host Business Community Forum on Parking
(April 27, 2009 – East Boston, MA) The East Boston Chamber of
Commerce is hosting a business community forum on the issue of
parking impacts on commercial activity in East Boston.
The East Boston Chamber, on behalf of its
neighborhood businesses, has secured community space at Maverick
Landing, located at 31 Liverpool Street, East Boston, on Tuesday,
May 26, 2009, from 6:00PM-7:30PM, in order to conduct a round-table
discussion on parking.
The forum was set in response to an overwhelming
call from the East Boston business community to discuss shortcomings
and potential solutions related to parking in and around our
neighborhood’s business districts for employees, delivery drivers,
and of course customers.
The East Boston Chamber, through a neighborhood-wide survey to
business owners and managers in the summer of 2008, found that the
number one challenge cited by responding businesses – via write-in
response – had to do with parking difficulties and receiving parking
tickets.
From local business representatives, independent
of the survey, the Chamber has received more grievances (by phone,
email, and in person) related to parking than any other issue,
including but not limited to a lack of available parking for
employees and customers and relentless ticketing.
This past January, the East Boston Chamber informed the Boston
Transportation Commissioner, the Mayor’s office, and Councilor
LaMattina’s office, of this overriding concern, and advised them
that the Chamber would be holding a business community meeting to
begin discussions on these issues. Representatives of these offices
have been invited to attend.
The forum will be open to all community business owners and managers
who wish to share their stories, perspectives, or ideas for
potential solutions. For more information on the event, please call
the Chamber at 617-569-5000. For information on the East Boston,
