Pediatrician Receives 2008 Community Pediatrician Award
Boston, Mass (JULY 2) -Children's Hospital Boston recently presented
Thomas Silva, MD, of East Boston Neighborhood Health Center with the
2008 Community Pediatrician Award. Recognized for his outstanding
contributions to his community and profession, Dr. Silva has been
practicing at East Boston Neighborhood Health Center for the past
thirteen years. He was among five physicians honored at a ceremony
that took place during Blackfan Day at Children's earlier this
month.
Among his accomplishments, Dr. Silva has developed a collaborative
program known as Special Kids Special Care, a program which has
provided better services to disabled children insured through
government programs. “Tom embodies the combination of caring and
curing that inspires all of us,” says Gregory Young, MD, Vice
President of Community Pediatrics.
Nominated by their peers, Children's Community
Pediatrician Award honorees are pediatricians that best
represent the level of personalized and quality care provided at
private pediatric practices and community health centers throughout
the greater Boston area.
Dr. Silva has written chapters in texts on the
care of technology dependent children and is a member of the
Massachusetts Disaster Medical Assistance Team. He received his
medical degree from Yale University.
Founded in 1869 as a 20-bed hospital for children, Children's
Hospital Boston today is the nation's leading pediatric medical
center, the largest provider of health care to Massachusetts
children, and the primary pediatric teaching hospital of Harvard
Medical School. In addition to 347 pediatric and adolescent
inpatient beds and comprehensive outpatient programs, Children's
houses the world's largest research enterprise based at a pediatric
medical center, where its discoveries benefit both children and
adults. For more information about the hospital and its research,

East Boston Neighborhood Health Center opened in
1970, operating 24-hours a day, 7-days a week; the only health
center in New England, and one of the few in the country, to
provide continuous care. EBNHC is the leading health care
provider in its service area, and is among the largest community
health centers in the country. During the past two decades, EBNHC
has grown to care for more than 300,000 patient visits per year—more
than any other ambulatory care center in New England.
