On the agenda is an update on the 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit
status of the EHCA as well as some notes about the structure of the
organization. We will have a presentation from a new community
organization called Neighbors United for a Better East Boston (NUBE).
And we will have an update on some of the requests for crosswalks or
traffic lights that have been made by members.
Here is a brief update of last month's meeting at which we had
several useful presentations:
--The project manager for the Chelsea Street Bridge repair project,
John Vitagliano, reported that the bridge will be closing in the
near future for about 1 year. They are very interested in receiving
input from the residents about how they can deal with the increase
in disruptions to the traffic. The pictures they showed of the new
bridge looked excellent and after the inconvenience of the project,
we should have a nice result for the community.
--There was a presentation by Chris on issues related to the
blocking of traffic in front of the high school in the afternoons.
--NOAH made a brief presentation regarding the renewal of their
permits to operate the Trinity House on Meridian Street.
--In response to the concerns of residents at a previous meeting
regarding the City's true pruning project, John Walkey, EHCA member
and head of the Urban Ecology Institute, helped to put this project
in context and explain the technical reasons for the pruning and
offered to raise some of our concerns with the City.
OTHER UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS:
1.) ELECTION DAY is Tuesday, November 3rd! No matter who you
support, please come out and vote. Our power as a neighborhood to
make the streets cleaner and safer, improve our schools, and control
the future development of the community is directly related to how
many people go out and vote on Tuesday in Eagle Hill. If we can show
that more people are voting in Eagle Hill, it will give us more
leverage to demand changes and improvements as a community through
the EHCA. More than voting yourself, as members of the EHCA, please
consider bringing at least 5 of your neighbors to vote with you on
Tuesday. With over 100 people on this email list - that could mean
500 extra voters in Eagle Hill!
2.) Saturday, November 7th from 6 - 9PM @ 184 Cottage Street. The
