The weather held off and it went great
starting at Noyes Park at 11:00am and heading down Bennington Street
towards Day Square.
It didn’t take long before our wonderful business helped out in many
ways to make our journey to East Boston Stadium a great day. First I
want to start with the businesses that Sponsored Wally The Green
Monster to be with us during our parade. John Zirpolo of Cora
Electrical Services or East Boston and Nick Varano of Strega
Ristorante and Nico Ristorante of Boston’s North End. These 2
businesses are owned by 2 East Boston guys that have always been
very generous towards the youth sports programs in East Boston.
As we walked out parade route 2 other businesses helped our kids as
well. Lanzilli’s Grocery on Bennington Street handed out waters to
all the people on the parade and they have also sponsored a team
this year. Then just about at our half way point Jim Leggiardro from
Jim’s Auto Sales and Thomas Henderson Sr. handed out hot dogs, chips
and drinks to all the people that participated in the parade and
Jim’s Auto Sales has also sponsored a team this year as well.
Most importantly we want to thank Capt. Robert Cunningham from
Station 7 for giving us Boston Police Officer Derek Russo and the
rest of the Boston Police Officers that kept our kids safe during
this parade. I also want to thank Dawn Clark and Liz Marchese for
dressing up and being our clowns for the day to entertain the kids.
We also want to thank the many local businesses and organizations
for their support of East Boston Little League this 2009 Season. We
also had 2 great opening day games on Saturday as well. First game
was the Suffolk Downs Mets vs Shea Electric Braves at the newly
renovated East Boston Stadium Little League field.
The game was a great game and it was filled with some great plays.
In the second inning the Suffolk Downs Mets smashed back to back
home runs the first was by Andrew Travaglini and then followed up by
Alex Maghsoudi giving them the lead.
The Braves fought back hard but then again in the fifth inning
Andrew Travaglini smashed another home run driving in 2 runs.
The Suffolk Downs Mets took the game and just like the Shea Electric
Braves are looking forward to a great season. Then at Noyes Park the
defending Saratoga Insurance Mets played Anthony Petruccelli Red Sox
and both team played hard and strong and had a great night the Mets
took the game and both teams are looking forward to a great season.
So again thanks to all that helped in the opening day for East
Boston Little League and its parade.
