NEWS FROM THE EB/REVERE ROTARY

Our weekly meeting this week will be a Joint Meeting on TUESDAY December 8, 2009 at 12:00pm at the Wyndham Hotel located at 201 Everett Avenue in Chelsea (across the street from Market Basket). Our meetings with the Chelsea Rotary Club are always fun as they are a great group, not as cool as us but they are a close second, please make every effort to attend. This meeting will take the place of our regular weekly meeting on Wednesday so we will not be meeting at Jeveli's this week.

Our breakfast meeting at Revere High School on Wednesday December 2nd was really great. Dr. Dave and his crew put on a great breakfast, we had a nice turnout for our meeting that included a representative from our Interact Club and we had Guest Speakers, a very nice couple from Braintree Rivers Rotary Club in the United Kingdom. The brief presentation that was put on by our Guest Speakers certainly got the attention of everyone in the room when they described how their Rotary Club is holding a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness and the fundraiser is going to be TOPLESS. First they had the Beatles and Princess Di and now they have topless fundraising, kinda makes you wish things went a little different during the American Revolutionary War huh? Anyway, this couple no sooner finished their presentation when every guy in the room could be heard calling the airlines to get a tally on how many frequent flyer miles they had to use in the near future, now that is what I call the true fellowship of Rotary....willing to endure a 7 hour flight to go to a fellow Rotarian's fundraiser, the dedication I tell ya' brings a tear to my eye. By a show of hands, how many guys in our group are going to give their sweeties a trip to Merry Olde England for Christmas?

Of course the clamoring in our group started immediately as everyone now wants East Boston/Revere Rotary Club to have a topless fundraiser too. Madame President thought it was a great idea and offered to have the fundraiser around the pool at the Comfort Inn, Father John kept nodding and saying "topless pasta night" and Past President Edna wanted to know where to sign up but she was quickly told by our beloved George M. that the specification was "topless" not "topless until your top reached your bottomless". I for one look forward to selling tickets to this event, it should be a breeze, heck, we might have to hold a lottery to see who is lucky enough to get a ticket. A note for all the male members of our group please have your cell phones on when this e-mail goes out because Fred S. is going to be calling to ask if we are really going to have a topless fundraiser.

A few nice notes for the upcoming holidays -

Treasurer Roger's Holiday Parties have been scheduled as follows:  Tuesday December 8 at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center at 204 Proctor Ave in Revere from 2:15pm until 3:30pm so let's all make it a point to head over there after the joint meeting in Chelsea and celebrate with the residents of the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center. Treasurer Roger also is having a Holiday Party the following Friday December 11, 2009 from 2:15pm until 3:30pm at Annemark Nursing Care Center at 133 Salem Street in Revere. At both parties Treasurer Roger promises an array of pastry from famous Mike's Pastry in Boston, Father John promises to play his banjo and Karen G. told us she was going to stop by with some cheerleaders. Pastry, the banjo and cheerleaders - the perfect trifecta.

Stop & Shop gift cards are in and ready for distribution and a gigantic thank you to PP Edna and her hubby Bob as they were able to get 2 of the gift cards donated from Stop & Shop as Bob is a recently retired employee (50+ years) at Stop & Shop.

Treasurer Roger reports that Rotarians should let him know if they need any food boxes decorated for the holiday distribution of food to the less fortunate as his residents look forward to the decorating project every year.

Our Interact Group has been really busy and about town spreading the holiday cheer on Tuesday December 8 they were at Revere High School sending out Christmas cards to the troops overseas through www.letssaythanks.com, they will also be at Revere High School Tuesday December 15 making cards and wrapping presents for gifts to be distributed at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center that they will deliver to the residents at another party scheduled for the residents on December 18 and rumor has it a high stakes bingo game is scheduled for that day too, look out kiddos those seniors know their bingo.

The Interact Club is having their Holiday Party on Tuesday December 22 at 2:25pm at Revere High School and they wish for our Rotary Club to be present for pizza, soda and raffles. Let's have a nice showing for these kids as they are hard working and very sweet.

A word to the wise, next time you need a good jinx placed on someone ask Billy Z, his $5 donation on my behalf at last week's breakfast meeting all be ensured that I would not get a deer when I went out hunting.

See you all in Chelsea Tuesday at 12:00pm.
