Fr. Wayne, Sacred Heart Church – Celebrating Season’s End and Endless Support from Community. Celebration Event Set for Sunday, March 29, 2009.

As the weather warms and we look forward to the renewal that spring brings, Fr. Wayne Belschner and the Sacred Heart Parish Family are pausing to celebrate the change of the season while reveling in the constant support of the community.

East Boston, Massachusetts. March 10, 2009 - - Although he would stop short of considering the consecutive break-ins that occurred at Sacred Heart Parish last fall that left a trail of vandalism, the need for costly repairs and a new security system, along with a sense of uneasiness among those within the East Boston community that know and love Father Wayne Belschner and Sacred Heart Church a blessing in disguise, he may have come to consider it an opportunity.

It became an opportunity for the parishioners, an already tight knit group, to remember the role that the church plays in their daily lives. In addition to being a spiritual center for the residents of East Boston, Father Wayne and his staff have worked to ensure that it is so much more - serving all members of the East Boston community from youth to elders of all cultural backgrounds.

It has also become an opportunity for members of the East Boston community and parish family to come out in full force to show their support for their beloved church and Pastor. In the hours and days immediately following the break-ins the rectory was flooded with calls and visits from concerned parishioners and community members offering their support and volunteering their resources to fix up the church and to raise funds necessary to make repairs and replace stolen artifacts.

The offers to host and contribute to fundraisers alone have been so numerous that it has taken months to be able to schedule all of them which includes a large effort being coordinated with the contributions of numerous East Boston businesses under the organization of Ursula Imbriano - proprietor of Mario’s Restaurant in Day Square.

On Sunday March 29, 2009 at 5:00 – Sacred Heart Parish will be hosting an ‘End of Winter Celebration’ in the church hall which will include appetizers, a delicious catered buffet with offerings from East Boston’s best restaurants and bakeries, along with entertainment, raffles and surprises. Tickets are $25.00 each and can be purchased after weekend Mass and by calling the rectory at 617-567-5776. Thanks to the contributions of Mario’s Restaurant, Rino’s Place, Off the Boat, Meridian Market, Spinelli’s, Jonquille’s Diner and many, many more donors and volunteers, all proceeds will go toward expenses to continue with the security and repairs as well as to continue with programming at the church.
