Paintings by Charlene Liska and Photographs by Jesse M. Kahn
Charlene Liska’s paintings dwell on the unreliability of
perception, the occasional error message that catches us off guard. The
canvases are spectacularly smooth surfaces overprinted with
silk-screened images. Jesse M. Kahn’s digital photo-montages explore
both the beauty and the tragedy of human and mythological experiences.
Both artists offer the viewer many openings into the reading of their
pieces, allowing individual experiences free reign across these sublime
surfaces.
Atlantic Works Gallery is a new exhibition space in East
Boston with spectacular views of Boston Harbor. Along with monthly art
exhibitions, the gallery hosts an informal get together every third
Thursday of the month from 6-8pm. Open to EBAG members and the public
this monthly event is a time for artists and friends to come together to
share ideas, look at art and plan future arts events for the East Boston
community.
With a growing number of artists settling in the
neighborhood, East Boston is beginning to foster a thriving artist
community, not unlike Fort Point. Growing out of the East Boston Artists
Group (EBAG), Atlantic Works Gallery is the newest manifestation of this
trend.
EBAG was formed in 1999 by a group of neighborhood
artists, and has grown to nearly 70 artist members. EBAG sponsors the
annual East Boston Open Studios in October, which showcases the member’s
studios and artwork.
Directions: Take Blue line to Maverick Station. Turn
left on Maverick Street, 5 short blocks to Border Street. Take a right,
building is on left side of street.
