From September 4-28, East Boston’s Atlantic Works Gallery Atlantic Works Gallery presents 2d or not 2d, an exhibition of paintings and sculpture by Stefanie St. Germain, Michael St. Germain, and Bo Petran.

Stefanie St. Germain is a painter who utilizes woodworking tools and techniques to create layered, cut and assembled acrylic paintings. These standard-sized works command a large presence relative to their somewhat diminutive size and can be read as both painting and low relief sculpture. Michael St. Germain is primarily a painter. His recent cut and folded metal dog sculptures incorporate elemental forms, which both simplify the subject and create abrupt (ab- ruff) light contrasts. Bo Petran is an artist currently engaged in connecting the sport of chess with abstract painting and sculpture. Alternating repetition, grid structures and a cast of unique chess figures he presents a compartmentalized organic scenario, which is both organic and transient.

About Atlantic Works
Atlantic Works Gallery is a new exhibition space in East Boston with spectacular views of Boston Harbor. Along with monthly art exhibitions, the gallery hosts an informal get-together the third Thursday of every month from 6-8pm. Open to EBAG members and the public, this monthly event is a time for artists and friends to come together to share ideas, look at art and plan future arts events for the East Boston community.

With a growing number of artists settling in the neighborhood, East Boston is beginning to foster a thriving artist community. Growing out of the East Boston Artists Group (EBAG), Atlantic Works Gallery is the newest manifestation of this trend.

EBAG was formed in 1999 by a group of neighborhood artists, and has grown to nearly 70 artist members. EBAG sponsors the annual East Boston Open Studios (October 11-13, 2003), which showcases the members’ studios and artwork.

Directions
Take the MBTA Blue Line to Maverick Station. Turn left on Maverick Street and walk five short blocks to Border Street. Take a right; the building is on left side of street. Follow signs to the gallery on the fourth floor.
