ATLANTIC WORKS GALLERY Presents: Fresh Perspectives – A Group Show for Open Studios featuring work by Leigh Hall, Laurie Hoffma, Michael St. Germain and Stephanie St. Germain.  The exhibit will be open from October 4 – October 26, 2003.

Fresh Perspectives features new work from four diverse artists.  Leigh Hall will show photographs and drawings and notes, "I’ve made a habit of looking and listening for the rhythms of life and my work is a record of these observations."  Laurie Hoffma will show photographs, Polaroid transfers and collage, including a series of photographs of intricate diesel and steam locomotive engines and a series depicting the Mississippi landscape.  Stefanie St. Germain is a painter who dries, layers, rolls, slices and chops paint into building blocks using woodworking tools, and then assembles the pieces into abstract fields of vibrant color. These small-scale works explore paint as material and visually represent the processes that created them.  Michael St. Germain is a painter and sculptor.  Some of the issues he explores in his work are luminosity, visual phenomena, the idea of form, and the complexity of accumulated simplicity.

The public is invited to visit the Gallery during gallery hours as well as during East Boston Open Studios on Columbus Day Weekend. This three-day event will feature over 45 artists throughout the neighborhood including the 80 Border Street artists’ building where the Gallery is housed, and in many more official Open Studios sites. A free Art Ferry is available to take visitors from Boston’s Christopher Columbus Park in the North End to East Boston and a free Art Bus is available to take visitors to all Open Studio locations.

All four Fresh Perspectives artists are members of the Atlantic Works Gallery and will be participating in the East Boston Open Studios event.  The Atlantic Works Gallery is a new exhibition space in East Boston with spectacular views of Boston harbor.  Along with monthly exhibitions, the gallery hosts an informal get-together open to the public every third Thursday of the month from 6 to 8 pm.

Directions to the Gallery are easy:  From East Boston’s Maverick Square (on the MBTA Blue Line), turn left onto Maverick Street, walk five short blocks to Border Street.  Take a right; 80 Border Street is on the left side of the street.
