FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Jeannette Lazarus
April 3, 2003

On exhibition from April 7th through
April 30th are recent paintings by Jeannette Lazarus, long time East
Boston resident and founding member of the East Boston Artists Group (EBAG)
The selection of works include Lazarus’s recent series of still lifes,
portraits and abstracts.
Jeannette Lazarus has an exuberant
love affair with the act of painting. While constantly exploring new
subjects, Jeannette frequently returns to her original sources: still
lives of fruit, often displaying three or four fruits to represent her
three sons and one daughter. "I love the process of painting", says
Lazarus. "Mostly what I'm after is to translate the miracle of seeing -
whether it's a visual seeing or an intuitive seeing. I'm trying to make
something physical out of the sheer joy of being alive". Jeannette is
deeply committed to making the materials tell the story so that while
the paintings are personal, they are also about the robust spirituality
that paint, as a substance, has on it's own.
The Firehouse Center for the Arts is
located at One Market Square in Newburyport. The art gallery is
free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10am-6pm, and
Sundays from 12-6pm.
Jeannette is represented by the
Chameleon Arts Gallery in Newburyport. Locally, she has shown her
paintings in various locations throughout East Boston including the new
Atlantic Works Gallery,
Tony’s Realty in Maverick Square, and
Zumix. Jeannette has a studio in the artists building at 80 Border
Street, which is open to the public during the annual East Boston Open
Studios in October.
