Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced
today the release of a Request
for Proposals (RFP) soliciting
ideas from non-profit cultural
organizations for projects that
address the new Boston Cultural
Agenda. Grants in the range of
$3,000 to $15,000 will be awarded
in June 2000. Up to $150,000 may
be awarded in this first round.
We look forward to working with
the cultural community to address
the new Boston Cultural Agenda.
This is the first opportunity for
the city to fund cultural
initiatives. The cultural
community is an important part of
city life and we welcome their
ideas and projects, said Mayor
Menino.
On April 19, 2000, Mayor Menino
announced the new Boston Cultural
Agenda, along with the city's
FY01 Workplan to address the
agenda. He also announced the
establishment of the Boston
Cultural Agenda Fund, which will
support the participation of
Boston's cultural non-profit
community in the implementation
of the new Boston Cultural
Agenda.
The Boston Cultural Agenda Fund
will help Boston-based non-profit
organizations to conduct projects
in the arts, humanities, and
sciences for the benefit of
Boston residents and visitors
that significantly advance one or
more of the following priority
areas:
CULTURAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
IN-SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH
OUT-OF-SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES FOR
YOUTH
CULTURE IN PUBLIC PLACES
CULTURAL INFRASTRUCTURE
CULTURAL INFORMATION
RESOURCES AND TECHNICAL
ASSISTANCE
RFPs will be available from the
Boston Office of Cultural
Affairs, City Hall Room 716,
beginning on Friday, May 5, 2000.
Information sessions to review
the Cultural Agenda and Boston
Cultural Agenda Fund application
process will be held at City
Hall, Room 801, on Thursday, May
4 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and
Thursday, May 11, 2000 from 3:00
p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Office of
Cultural Affairs will also
demonstrate its website and
database, which includes
information about the city's
culture and arts community. RFPs
will also be available for
distribution at these
meetings.
Applications are due on or before
May 31, 2000 at 5:00 p.m. A panel
selected by the Boston Office of
Cultural Affairs will review
completed applications and grant
agreements will be announced in
June 2000.
