Off to college? Apply for your absentee ballot today!

BOSTON, MA – Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the Boston Board of Election Commissioners remind Boston’s college students, who are heading off to schools around the Commonwealth and around the country, to apply now for their absentee ballots for this fall’s state elections.

“Boston’s election officials are very grateful to the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth, William Francis Galvin, for making sure that absentee ballots for the September 14th State Primary were delivered to the City in a timely manner,” said Geraldine Cuddyer, Chair of Boston’s Board of Election Commissioners.  “This will give the majority of our college-bound students the opportunity to vote in the Primary before they leave for school, and will ensure that they fill out the proper information for mailing their ballot to their campus address in time for the November 2nd State Election.”

Students currently registered to vote in Boston who are heading out of the City or State for college can come to the Boston Election Department, Room 241 at Boston City Hall, on any business day, between the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., to cast their absentee ballots for the State Primary, and to fill out an application to have their November ballot mailed to a campus address.

There are several very competitive races on the State Primary ballot in several neighborhoods of the City, as well as for constitutional offices.  The list of candidates in Suffolk County can be found on the Election Department’s webpage.  Prospective voters can also download an absentee ballot application from the Election Department’s website: www.cityofboston.gov/elections.
