Bro. Sheehan was born in Jersey City, N.J., on July 19, 1934, to John and Bridget Casey Sheehan. He was baptized at St. Aedan’s Church in Jersey City less than a month later and confirmed at age 11 at St. Anne’s Church in the same city.

After graduating from St. Michael’s High School in Jersey City in 1952, George entered the Salesian pre-novitiate program at Don Bosco Seminary in Newton, N.J., followed by his novitiate year, also in Newton. He made his first profession of religious vows on September 8, 1954. He was sent immediately to Don Bosco Technical High School in Paterson, N.J., to teach English. In 1967 he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in English from Don Bosco College, Newton.

In the meantime, Bro. Sheehan became an outstanding English and dramatics teacher, both respected and liked by students in Paterson (1954-1962), Salesian Seminary in Cedar Lake, Ind. (1962-1964), Salesian High School in New Rochelle (1964-1970, 1984-1991), St. Dominic Savio High School in East Boston (1970-1976, 1992-1998), and Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, N.J. (1976-1984). He also directed Camp Don Bosco in East Barrington, N.H., for many summers.

Bro. Sheehan is survived by two sisters, Sister Joan Sheehan, O.P., a Caldwell Dominican nun, and Maureen McQuilken, and by a niece and a nephew.
