Former BU Sailing Captain Bobby Martin to Lead Local Non-profit
BOSTON (November 10, 2010) – Piers Park Sailing Center has selected
former Boston University sailing captain Bobby Martin to lead the
fifteen-year-old organization on the Boston waterfront. Piers Park
Sailing Center is the closest non-profit recreational sailing center
to downtown Boston. It provides sailing programs for 700 at-risk
youth every summer, hundreds of adults through its popular adult
sailing club and disabled sailors with the top adaptive sailing
program in the country led by 2008 Paralympic Gold Medalist Maureen
McKinnon-Tucker.
“It is an honor to continue the great sailing tradition at Piers
Park,” said Bobby Martin, executive director of Piers Park Sailing
Center. “We are more committed than ever to the local community and
to our core mission of providing everyone the opportunity to
experience the adventure of sailing in Boston Harbor and throughout
the Boston Harbor Islands National Park.”
Martin intends to focus first on the strengthening of core programs
and the expansion of programming and services into the winter
months.
Martin is a veteran racing coach, having served various clubs and
youth teams over the course of his career. He began his sailing
career in New Jersey as a coach on the Delaware River and later
became head racing coach of the Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May.
Martin moved to Boston to attend the Boston University School of
Management where he captained the nationally-ranked Boston
University sailing team.
Martin completed a transatlantic crossing and has extensive
experience in marine manufacturing. His previous financial
management experience includes providing brokerage services for
Raymond James Financial Services.
Martin joined Piers Park Sailing Center earlier this year as
membership coordinator. He now resides in Somerville, Massachusetts.
