Details: This is East Boston’s second annual Relay for Life Event.
The 2009 event was hugely successful with a total of 33 teams
participating in the night-long walk. Highlights included the
initial lap lead by dozens of local cancer survivors and caretakers.
A festive activity filled ‘tent-city’ hosted by each of the
participating teams with activities ranging from pampering services,
raffles, food and more. Themed laps ranging from toga to country
western, and 80’s themes – that kept walkers spirits up and minds
off of their feet as they strolled the track throughout the night.
Most participants agreed that among the most emotional and
motivating activities of the relay – was the late night luminaria
ceremony with luminarias dedicated in honor of those who have fought
or are currently battling cancer- and the memory of those who have
been lost to the disease. The luminarias lit the path throughout the
night.
