AUGUST 25TH IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER TO VOTE IN
THE STATE PRIMARIES
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Board of Election Commissioners reminds
Boston residents that the last day to register to vote, to change
your address, or to change Political Party enrollment for the State
Primaries is Wednesday, August 25, 2010. The State Primaries will be
held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. The Election Department (Boston
City Hall, Room 241) is open Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM,
and will be open until 8PM on August 25th to accommodate last-minute
registrants. Those entering City Hall after 5PM should use the
Congress Street entrance, opposite Faneuil Hall.
Unlike most Primary years, there are a number of contested races
this September. Voters are urged to visit the Election Department’s
website to see a list of Suffolk County candidates, as well as
candidates for federal and state-wide offices. Voters are reminded
that voting is address-based in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,
so those who have moved since last voting should make sure that they
have updated their voting records to reflect their local address.
Prospective voters can also register, or change Political Parties,
by using a mail-in form. However, the forms must be mailed in plenty
of time to reach City Hall. All mail-in forms must be postmarked by
August 25th for the registrant to be added to the rolls for the
Primaries. Mail-in forms can be found at many libraries, community
centers and health centers. A mail-in form can also be downloaded
from the Boston Election Department’s website:
www.cityofboston.gov/elections. Please make sure to send all
registrations to: Boston Election Department; Room 241, Boston City
Hall; Boston, MA 02201.
In the September 14 State Primaries, registered Democrats,
Republicans and Libertarians will be selecting candidates to
represent their Parties in the State Election on November 2, 2010.
Unenrolled/No Party voters may also participate in the Primaries by
choosing either the Democratic, Republican or Libertarian ballot.
The voter will then revert to his/her Unenrolled status
automatically.
Voters with other Party Designations DO NOT
participate in the Primaries. Voters who want to check their voting
or Political Party status online are reminded that they can visit
the Boston Election Department’s website at
www.cityofboston.gov/elections, and click on the link “Voter
Registration Search.” By entering a name and birth date, voters can
check on their voting status, registered address, and the location
of their polling place. This service is also available in Spanish by
clicking on the “En Espanol” link.
Voters with questions regarding their voting status or polling
location should call the Boston Election Department at 617-635-3767.
