New Boston Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome/Fibromyalgia Support Group Forms in Brighton, MA
Brighton, MA – August 10, 2009 – On August 4, 2009 the very first
support group in Boston for individuals who suffer from Chronic
Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia was hosted by Dr. Mitchell D.
Simon, DC of Simon Chiropractic and Dr. Julie M. Wiener, ND of
Beacon Naturopathic. Simon and Wiener saw the need for more support
groups in the Greater Boston Area.
At the urging of groups like the Massachusetts CFIDS/ME and FM
Association along with various practitioners at St. Elizabeth’s
Medical Center, Dr. Simon stated, “We started the support group so
that there could be a venue to share experiences, share resources,
and most importantly provide a forum for understanding.”
Dr. Wiener added, “Patients with CFIDS and Fibromyalgia endure
tremendous limitations in their lives and are often greatly
misunderstood by the public. A support group such as this provides
an environment of help and understanding so needed by this
community.”
One attendee came as far as Kennebunk, Maine. Greg Pons said, “"I
attended the meeting for a few very important reasons. First, I was
excited there was now a place for me to express my feelings,
emotions and thoughts about living with Fibromyalgia. Finding a
support group for this disease is not easy. Second, I was hoping to
garner some new information from other sufferers and the
facilitators. Going forward, I feel this monthly meeting will
provide these things."
According to the group’s mission statement, the group aims to:
-Develop a safe, nonjudgmental support network between members so
they may connect and offer support to each other.
-Foster empathy, understanding and a positive outlook.
-Offer a space in which members can share their perspectives and
experiences.
-Expose members to a variety of educational resources.
The group plans to meet the first Tuesday of the month from 6:00 PM
to 7:30 PM and the next meeting is September 1st. The meeting will
be held in St. Margaret’s Conference Room # 5 (5th Floor) at 736
Cambridge Street in Brighton, MA.
If you or anyone you know is suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
or Fibromyalgia, please feel free to join the group.
