May Events and Programs at the East Boston Branch

Children’s and Teen Programs:

Happy Birthday Club - Join us each month for a book Birthday party! Help us celebrate an author or illustrator’s Birthday with activities, reading books, and making crafts. May 6 at 3:30 p.m. For children in grades K-2.

City of Lego - Share your vision, shape your city. What might the city of Boston look like in 2030? Come explore urban design and architecture as you build the future of Boston using Lego Bricks. This family program is designed for caregivers and their children aged 5-13 years old. A maximum ratio of one adult per three children will be required. May 7, 1:00 -3:00 p.m. Sign up with a librarian today!

Reading Readiness - a weekly story time with stories, songs, and rhymes built around important concepts. Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. (runs through May 24). For all ages accompanied by an adult.

Family Story Time - This weekly story time features books, songs, and movement. Tuesdays at 11:15 a.m. (runs through May 24. No story time on May 10). For ages 2-5 accompanied by an adult.

Baby Lapsit - Join us for bounces, rhymes, stories and activities. Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. (runs through May 25). For children under 2 accompanied by an adult.

Countdown to Kindergarten Playgroup-Join Countdown to Kindergarten for a bilingual playgroup on Saturday May 7th and Saturday, May 21st at 10a.m.

The traveling play, D.W. Counts Down to Kindergarten is coming to the East Boston Library!
Come see the play and pick up a School Readiness Activity Kit. Tuesday, May 31 at 10:30 a.m. Thank you to the Boston Children’s Museum and Countdown to Kindergarten for sponsoring this event.

ABCD Family Planning Workshop- Jewel Evans from ABCD leads a sexual and reproductive health workshop for teens on Monday, May 2 at 3:30 PM.

Get A Clue: CSI and the Science of Forensics- Children get to become junior detectives as they explore techniques used to investigate crimes! It meets on Monday, May 9th and Monday, May 23 at 5:30 p.m. For ages 9 and up.

Yu-Gi-Oh Club -meets every Saturday from 1:30-3:30. Grand Yu-Gi-Oh tournament will be at 12:00 on Saturday, May 28.


Adult Programs:


English Conversation Groups- Come practice speaking English with our conversation group. An advanced group on Monday at 6:30pm and a beginning group meets on Thursdays at 6:30 pm. The groups are free and open to the public. No registration needed.

Learn to Knit-Learn basic knitting techniques and make your own spa cloth, shawl or scarf. On Thursdays in May from 6:30 pm. Bring your own needles and yarn - materials will not be provided. For teens and adults.

Debt Counseling Seminar with Peter Martino-Are you concerned about high debts, outstanding judgments, garnished wages, or too much credit card debt? Join Attorney Peter Martino on Monday, May 16th at 6:30 pm to learn about credit counseling and some debt consolidation options.
