East
Boston Chamber and Massachusetts Port Authority Host Night of
Networking
(April 17, 2009 – East Boston, MA) The East Boston Chamber of
Commerce and the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) today
announced a Night of Networking, at Boston Logan International
Airport, on Monday, May 4, from 6:00 to-8:00 p.m., at Dine Boston
Bar & Grill, in Terminal E (Departure Level/3rd Level).
“This is a great opportunity for businesses at Logan Airport,
including concessionaires, airline managers, car rental managers,
and Massport staff to meet and discuss opportunities with Chamber
business owners and managers,” said Angelo Vigliotta, Jr., president
of the East Boston Chamber. “Networking sessions such as these are
especially important to our members given the economic downturn
facing our community.”
Like any large business, Massport relies on a wide range of goods
and services to operate, and for many years has purchased goods and
services from businesses located in East Boston.
Each year Massport makes a significant contribution in lieu of
property taxes (PILOT) to the City of Boston. In fiscal year 2009
Massport will contribute $16 million, a 3 percent increase over
fiscal year 2008. Along with PILOT payments, the City of Boston also
receives nearly $45 million in other fees and surcharges from the
Authority. In addition, Massport makes significant PILOT payments to
the City of Chelsea and the Town of Winthrop. Further, Massport
contributes to youth programs including summer employment and
sponsors local charities in communities in close proximity to
Massport operations.
This May 4 event is open to Chamber members and will include
complimentary appetizers, a cash bar and complimentary parking at
Terminal E, Surface Lot #2 (Arrivals Level). Please RSVP by
Thursday, April 30 by contacting the Chamber at 617-569-5000 ext.
221 or john@eastbostonchamber.com.
