DeAraujo Statement on Senate
Campaign
After careful consideration, I've decided not to run for
the Senate seat being vacated by our Senator Anthony Petruccelli.
I'm very grateful for the pledges of support I received from friends across the
district, especially from my neighbors in East Boston, whom I had the honor to
serve for three years as their Liaison to City Hall.
My abiding interest in government service is rooted in my participation in the
Boston Latin School's John William Ward Fellowship. Through the Ward Fellowship,
I learned and am continually reinvigorated by the belief that government
service--whether as a civil servant, appointed, or elected official--is a public
trust and as Americans we must be good stewards of these roles and act as if we
can make a difference.
While this campaign was not the right opportunity for me, I have confidence that
the election will give our district a unifying figure for this important
position at the State House.
I look forward to continuing my role in the East Boston community and the
Commonwealth as an advocate for housing, healthcare, and effective
government.
